Kevin Snider, Chief Counsel for Pacific Justice Institute, will be participating in the oral argument. Snider will explain to the court the legality of homeschooling under both state law and constitutional principles. PJI represents the Christian school through which the L. family homeschools their children. The appellate court is revisiting the case after issuing a ruling in late February that the parents had no rights to teach their children at home. With an estimated 166,000 children being homeschooled in California, the ruling stunned families and sparked media coverage by all major media outlets in California and national outlets such as CNN and Time Magazine.
Brad Dacus, president of Pacific Justice Institute, commented on the upcoming oral argument, "We are looking forward to this opportunity to defend the thousands of families who are making sacrifices to teach their children at home. The state should be applauding, not threatening, these families."
